All these smart glasses and nothing to do

All these smart glasses and nothing to do

The smart glasses market has exploded. One reporter is literally testing multiple pairs at once, with Even Realities G2 on their face, two Rokid pairs on the desk, Meta Ray-Ban Display charging nearby, and a closet full of Xreal, RayNeo, Lucyd, and even six pairs of Walmart smart sunnies.

But here's the thing: having all this hardware doesn't solve the fundamental question of what you're supposed to do with it. The technology has arrived faster than the use cases.

This matters because we're seeing the same pattern that played out with early smartwatches and fitness trackers. Hardware manufacturers are racing to ship products, but the killer app that makes these things essential hasn't emerged yet.

For AI professionals, this is a familiar problem. We have powerful tools, but adoption hinges on solving real problems, not just showcasing cool tech. Smart glasses can display notifications, take photos, and run AI assistants, but none of that has proven indispensable enough to justify wearing them all day.

The reporter is even trying to get Ray-Ban Meta Optics to handle a challenging prescription, showing how much effort it takes just to make these devices physically wearable for everyone. That's still a barrier before we even get to the software side.

The smart glasses wave is real, but it's still searching for its purpose. Until these devices solve a problem you didn't know you had, or make an existing workflow dramatically better, they'll remain gadgets for early adopters rather than tools for everyone.
