Amazon is already offering new OpenAI products on AWS

Amazon didn't waste any time. Just one day after OpenAI convinced Microsoft to end its exclusive cloud partnership, AWS rolled out a full slate of OpenAI products on its platform.

The new offerings include OpenAI's models and a fresh agent service. This is a big shift from the Microsoft-only arrangement that's defined OpenAI's cloud strategy since the partnership began.

For anyone building AI products, this matters because you now have real choice in where you deploy OpenAI's tech. AWS's infrastructure and pricing could look very different from Azure's, and competition usually means better deals.

The timing tells you everything about how fast this market moves. Microsoft's exclusivity probably made sense when OpenAI needed a single strong partner. Now that OpenAI is established, spreading across cloud providers reduces risk and opens new customer bases.

This also puts pressure on AWS's own AI models like those in Bedrock. They're now hosting a competitor's products alongside their own, which suggests they see OpenAI access as table stakes for keeping enterprise customers.

The agent service is particularly interesting because agents are where a lot of the practical AI work is heading. Having that capability native on AWS means less integration headache for teams already running their infrastructure there.

Expect Google Cloud to announce something similar soon. When the big three cloud providers all offer the same AI models, the differentiation shifts to tooling, integration, and price.
