Google just made its AI Pro subscription a lot more compelling without touching the price tag. The $20/month plan (or $200/year if you prefer) now comes with 5TB of cloud storage, up from the previous 2TB. That extra space works across Gmail, Google Drive, and Google Photos, so it's not locked to AI features alone.
The storage bump is nice, but the Gemini upgrades might be the bigger deal for anyone living inside Google's ecosystem. Gemini can now pull context from your Gmail and the web when you're working in Drive, Docs, Slides, and Sheets. It'll also summarize your Gmail inbox and proofread emails before you hit send.
Then there's the new agentic browsing feature in Chrome. Google VP Shimrit Ben-Yair described it as handling "tedious, multi-step chores" like planning a trip or filling out forms. That's the kind of practical AI automation that actually saves time in a workday, not just a flashy demo.
Google is also throwing in its Home Premium subscription, which normally runs $10/month on its own. For smart home users, that effectively knocks the real cost of the AI features down to $10/month worth of value.
All of these updates are live now for both new and existing subscribers, though some users may see the changes roll out gradually. Ben-Yair had to reassure people on X that this wasn't an April Fool's prank, given the timing.
For anyone already paying for cloud storage and using Google's productivity suite, this is worth a serious look. The combination of expanded storage, Gemini integration across Workspace apps, and the Home Premium bundle makes AI Pro one of the more practical AI subscriptions available right now. It's less about cutting-edge model access and more about making the tools you already use work smarter.
