Motorola's New Razr Folding Phones Command a Higher Price and Few Upgrades

Motorola's latest Razr phones are more expensive across the board, and the upgrades don't really justify the price bump. All three models in the new lineup cost more than their predecessors.

This matters if you've been considering a flip phone as a way to reduce screen time or simplify your setup. Foldables were supposed to get more accessible over time, not less.

The timing is interesting. As AI features become standard on flagship phones, manufacturers seem to be using that as cover for price increases, even when the AI capabilities are minimal or cloud-based.

For anyone trying to declutter their tech setup, a flip phone can be appealing. The smaller form factor and reduced screen real estate naturally limit doomscrolling. But paying a premium for that simplicity is a tough sell.

Motorola isn't alone in this trend. Samsung and other foldable makers have been inching prices up too. The foldable phone market is still finding its footing, and right now that means consumers are paying early adopter prices without getting early adopter innovation.
