OpenAI just announced another executive shuffle, and this time it's all about agents. Company president Greg Brockman is now officially leading all product efforts as OpenAI consolidates its teams around a single goal: building AI agents that can actually do things for you.
In a memo obtained by The Verge, Brockman explained that OpenAI is merging ChatGPT and Codex into one unified agentic platform. The company wants to stop spreading resources across separate products and instead focus everything on agents that can take action on your behalf.
This is OpenAI's second major reorganization in recent weeks. Last month, AGI boss Fidji Simo went on medical leave, triggering another round of leadership changes. The constant reshuffling suggests OpenAI is racing to get its organizational structure right as competition in the AI agent space heats up.
For anyone using AI tools at work, this matters because agents represent the next evolution beyond chatbots. Instead of just answering questions, agents can execute tasks, use tools, and work across multiple systems. OpenAI clearly sees this as the battleground where the AI wars will be won or lost.
