Samsung’s Galaxy S27 ‘Pro’ could squeeze in between the Ultra and Plus phones

Samsung might be shaking up its flagship phone strategy. According to a report from ETNews, the Galaxy S27 lineup could include a brand new tier called the Galaxy S27 Pro, sitting right between the Plus and the Ultra.

If this pans out, it would mark a notable shift in how Samsung segments its top phones. Instead of the familiar three tiers, you'd have four options to choose from, with the Pro acting as a second premium pick below the Ultra.

One interesting trade-off in the reported specs: the Galaxy S27 Pro apparently won't support the S Pen. That's been a signature Ultra feature, and Samsung seems intent on keeping it that way to protect the Ultra's top-dog status.

What the Pro would get, though, is Samsung's Privacy Display technology. That's the screen tech that limits viewing angles so people next to you can't sneak a peek at your phone. It's currently reserved for select Samsung devices, so bringing it to a new flagship tier signals Samsung sees real demand for built-in screen privacy.

For anyone in the AI and productivity space, this matters because Samsung's flagships are increasingly the hardware people use to run on-device AI features like Galaxy AI. A new Pro tier could give power users a more affordable path to premium hardware without jumping all the way to Ultra pricing.

The bigger picture here is that phone makers are realizing one-size-fits-all lineups don't cut it anymore. Apple did something similar by splitting into Pro and Pro Max. Samsung adding a Pro slot suggests they're fine-tuning their lineup to capture buyers who want more than the Plus but don't need everything the Ultra offers.

Nothing is confirmed yet, and the S27 series isn't expected until next year. But if Samsung does go this route, expect the conversation around flagship phones to get a lot more interesting.
