The “people’s airline” and the enterprise AI gold rush

The enterprise AI land grab is officially on. This week alone, we saw Anthropic and OpenAI both announce new joint ventures focused on enterprise AI deployment, while SAP wrote a $1 billion check for German AI startup Prior Labs.

If you're running a startup building enterprise AI tools right now, congratulations. You're basically walking around with a "for sale" sign on your back. The big players are hunting for technology and talent that can help them crack the enterprise market faster.

Why the feeding frenzy? Enterprise customers have different needs than consumers. They want security, compliance, integration with existing systems, and someone to call when things break. Building all that takes time, and acquiring it is faster.

For anyone working in AI or running a business that uses these tools, this matters. The companies you rely on today might be owned by completely different players tomorrow. That could mean better integration and support, or it could mean your favorite tool gets absorbed and deprioritized.

The pattern is clear: if you've built something that helps companies actually deploy and use AI at scale, rather than just playing with demos, you've got something valuable. The question isn't if you'll get acquisition interest, it's when and from whom.
