Trump Media Scales Back Plans for Its Own Prediction Market

Truth Predict was supposed to be Trump Media's big entry into prediction markets, riding the wave that made Polymarket a household name during the 2024 election. But the company just announced they're scaling way back.

Instead of launching a full platform where users bet real money on future events, Truth Predict will start as a limited test. Think play money and restricted access, not the kind of market that could compete with established players.

This matters because prediction markets became legitimately useful tools in 2024. Polymarket often outperformed traditional polls, and plenty of professionals started checking these platforms alongside news sources for signal on everything from elections to AI policy.

The Trump family clearly saw the opportunity. But launching a real money prediction market means navigating a maze of gambling regulations, and apparently that's harder than it looked.

For now, if you're using prediction markets to inform decisions or track sentiment on AI regulation and tech policy, you'll want to stick with the existing platforms. Truth Predict isn't going to move any needles in its current form.

The broader trend here is that prediction markets are maturing from crypto curiosity to actual decision making tools. But turning that into a sustainable business, especially one tied to a polarizing brand, is trickier than the hype suggested.
